How to Find Sport Fishing Hotspots in Ashes of Creation

Sport fishing in Ashes of Creation is a high reward, time limited activity that depends entirely on finding active hotspots. Unlike AFK fishing, sport fishing is only possible under very specific conditions. If you’re missing even one of them, you won’t be able to fish at all. Here’s exactly how hotspots work and how to find them efficiently.

What Is a Sport Fishing Hotspot?

A sport fishing hotspot is a temporary fishing location that appears in the world for a limited time. These hotspots are:

  • Marked by a red fish icon on the map

    Sport Fishing Icon

  • Only visible on the map when you are fairly close to the area

  • Identifiable by seagulls flying overhead

  • Segulls

If you don’t see a hotspot icon and don’t use chum, sport fishing is impossible.

Chum Is Required (No Exceptions)

Every sport fishing hotspot must be activated with chum before fishing can begin.

There are two types:

  • Freshwater Chum – Used in lakes and rivers

  • Saltwater Chum – Used in oceans and lawless PvP zones

Chum can be crafted at a cookhouse or purchased on the marketplace.
Using the wrong chum means no sport fishing, even if the hotspot is active.

Hotspot Duration and Fish Limits

Once a hotspot is chummed:

  • It remains active for 60 minutes

  • The hotspot will then move to a new location

  • There are unlimited sport fish during that 60 minute window

  • Everyone can fish once the area is chummed. (Only 1 person needs to chum the water)

Because fish are unlimited, everyone is encouraged to fish the same hotspot until it expires.

Boats Are Mandatory

All sport fishing requires a boat, Sport fishing from shore is not possible.

Recommended boats:

  • Rowboats – Ideal for freshwater lakes and rivers

  • Corsair fishing boat (18g) – Strongly recommended for ocean and saltwater hotspots

Saltwater fishing carries additional risk, especially in lawless PvP zones, but also comes with higher value fish. Visit our Profit Calculator to see fish averages.

Freshwater vs Saltwater Hotspots

There is a clear risk-versus-reward tradeoff:

  • Freshwater sport fish

    • Safer

    • Can be close to towns that have cookhouses

    • Slightly lower value

  • Saltwater sport fish

    • Higher risk due to PvP

    • Located in open ocean

    • Corsair fishing boat can add a radar to locate hotspots

    • Worth more gold on average

Players willing to take on PvP danger are rewarded with higher value catches.

Use the Community Live Map

One of the best ways to find active hotspots quickly is by using the Ashes Fishing Live Map:

  • Share real time fishing intel

  • Reduce wasted travel time searching empty waters

Key Takeaways

  • No hotspot + no chum = no sport fishing

  • Look for red fish icons and seagulls

  • Always bring the correct chum

  • Hotspots last 60 minutes with unlimited fish

  • Boats are required, choose the right one

  • Saltwater fishing pays more due to PvP risk

  • Use the live community map to stay efficient

Sport fishing isn’t about luck, it’s about timing, preparation, and information. Stay mobile, fish aggressively during active windows, and you’ll get the most value out of every hotspot. 🎣
